In its most simplistic form, the Keto Diet; is a low-carb, high-fat diet. If you were a 90’s kid, you remember the Atkins diet. Well, this is same-same, but different. The theory behind the keto diet is that by restricting the carbohydrates consumed, you can transition to using a different form of energy - called Ketone Bodies and in the process potentially burn fat more effectively.
The diet follows the notion that the restriction of carbohydrates can massively reduce a person’s blood sugar and insulin levels. This process turns fat into Ketones in the liver, making your body incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. To get to this level of Ketosis it could take someone 3 - 10 days.
