How McKay Lost 40 lbs and 25% Body Fat

From being told he needed to start medication to lower his cholesterol to training for his first-ever physique competition, McKay has been on the ultimate fitness journey over the last 10 years.

With a combination of training hard and eating clean, McKay is set to hit the stage next month in the best shape of his life. Here's his story.

 

 

Meet Mckay

A 41-year-old husband, father, and successful business owner, McKay grew up living an active lifestyle. As a former athlete and outdoorsman, he never expected that he'd be staring down at the scale, very unhappy with the number looking back up at him. And after an eye-opening experience with his doctor, Mckay knew he needed to turn his health around.

McKay’s Transformation Story

“I was a pretty fit guy for most of my life. I enjoyed playing sports and being outdoors. It wasn’t until I became a business owner and a father that life really started to get in the way of my fitness. As you probably know, owning a business and being a dad can be very stressful. Everything started to pile on and I started to see myself go from a fit guy to this overweight guy. I didn’t like what I saw, but more than that, I really didn't like how I felt. 

I really hit rock bottom when I went to get the results of a series of bloodwork from my doctor. 

I went in to get bloodwork to complete my life insurance application and came out of it being told that, not only did I not qualify for life insurance, but that I was going to need to go on medication to lower my cholesterol if I didn’t start to get fit immediately.

I couldn’t believe I let myself get here. How could I ensure my family would be taken care of if something were to happen to me? How could I set a good example for my kids if I was sick and overweight? Something had to change.

Making Clean Eating and Fitness a Priority

Immediately after that appointment, I picked up the phone and called a personal trainer. I needed someone to hold me accountable, to ensure I was putting in the work, and to help me get through the ups and downs of getting back into shape. 

With the help of my trainer and a new clean diet, I went from 225 lbs. and 30% body fat to 185 lbs. with 12% body fat. 

I was super happy to see results and even happier to feel results, but I knew I could push my body even further. He taught me about weight lifting, clean eating, and fueling my body with healthy food. He really turned my life around.

Discovering Trifecta

About a year ago, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and get in the best shape of my life. I signed up to compete in my first physique competition. 

At this point in my fitness journey, I knew I needed to eat a clean diet and I knew that meal prepping was the easiest way to do it. I was pretty familiar with meal prepping and had been doing it off and on over the last 10 years. With the physique competition coming up I knew I needed to get back to meal prepping and I knew I needed to start prepping more food than ever before.

Before Trifecta I would spend countless hours in the kitchen prepping clean proteins and veggies only to have it last a few short days once my wife and kids got to it. 

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that my kids enjoy eating my clean, prepped food, but I didn't have time for multiple preps every week. I needed a solution that was easy, convenient, and helped me reach my goals with the foods I liked to eat.

McKay’s Weight Loss Advice

If I had to give one piece of advice about getting fit, I’d say “Create a plan and execute it.”  

Get a trainer, invest in your health and eat clean food that will fuel your body. Your motivation will wax and wane but if you have a plan and the discipline to stick to it, you will achieve more than you even knew you could.” 

How to Crush Your Macros like Mckay

Here is where things get the most confusing for a lot of us.
